Hamas makes

an offer

CAIRO (AP) -- Hamas has confirmed that it will disarm as part of a deal announced by U.S. President Donald Trump that also requires Israel to end its strikes and withdraw from Gaza.

It marks a potential breakthrough in ending the war, but implementation faces major challenges. Hamas also said that laying down its heavy weapons, which would come later in the process, was contingent on the creation of a Palestinian state, something Israel’s current government adamantly rejects.

Israel has not officially commented on the deal, which is part of a U.S.-brokered ceasefire announced last October.

Jurors visit

Clancy home

DUXBURY, Mass. (AP) -- Jurors have walked through the Massachusetts home where Lindsay Clancy strangled her three children. Friday’s rare visit let the jury see firsthand the place where an outwardly ordinary family life unraveled into tragedy.

First, the jury was driven past some businesses relevant to the narrative of the January 2023 killings. Then jurors were escorted in groups of six to view the inside of the house and also saw the yard. Clancy’s lawyers don’t dispute that she strangled the children with exercise bands.

But the defense says she was in the grip of postpartum psychosis, a rare mental illness.

Migrants

leave Ceuta

CEUTA, Spain (AP) -- Tens of thousands of migrants who crossed into Spain’s tiny Ceuta territory have returned voluntarily to Morocco.

Their return on Friday came a day after the influx triggered chaos in the city in North Africa and reignited the immigration debate in Europe and beyond. At least 57 migrants died on the journey. Ceuta’s president put the number of migrants at 60,000, which was equivalent to 70% of the territory’s population.

But most of them soon went back, the Spanish government said, after the sudden arrival of so many people sparked a humanitarian crisis.

Pilot ejects

from F-35B

SAN DIEGO (AP) -- The U.S. Marine Corps says the pilot of an F-35B stealth fighter is expected to live after ejecting from the jet before it crashed in California. The jet went down Friday in a field near the Miramar air base in San Diego.

An update from the Marines says he was taken to a local medical facility in stable condition. A single F-35B fighter jet costs about $109 million. Aerial video showed a plume of black smoke rising from a field.

The F-35B is one of several versions of the advanced stealth fighter jet and has an engine designed for short takeoffs and vertical landings.
