returns home
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Republican Sen. Mitch McConnell of Kentucky says he's been discharged from a rehabilitation center and will continue his recovery from home.
McConnell gave no specific date for his return to the Capitol, but senators are expected to soon leave Washington for the traditional August recess.
The former Senate leader was first admitted to the hospital on June 14. He disclosed weeks later that his hospitalization was the result of a fall and said he was undergoing physical therapy. In his statement, McConnell said he’ll "continue to engage with my staff and colleagues on important Senate business."
Hormuz deal

(AP) -- Iran says it is in the final stage of drafting an agreement on the Strait of Hormuz waterway with Oman.
At least two ships were hit in the strait in the past week, while several others reported near misses or warnings from entities claiming to represent Iran’s Revolutionary Guard.
Meanwhile, Yemen’s Houthi rebels attacked government forces, killing at least 30 in one of the biggest such assaults since a 2022 truce. T
New flu shot

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Food and Drug Administration has approved a new flu vaccine for older people, the first made with the same mRNA technology that was key to ending the COVID-19 pandemic. Moderna announced the approval late Wednesday.
The Cambridge, Massachusetts-based company says it expects some supply to be available in certain stores soon. The shot is called mFlusiva and is for adults age 50 or older. It offers an additional option among the multiple flu vaccines available, including three specifically recommended for people age 65 or older who are especially vulnerable to influenza.
Amanda Knox
defends show
LONDON (AP) -- Amanda Knox is defending a show she is performing at the Edinburgh Fringe festival in Scotland over the coming days. The American student convicted and later acquitted of the gruesome murder and sexual assault of her British flatmate Meredith Kercher 19 years ago in Italy was a 20-year-old student in Perugia when Kercher was found stabbed to death in her bedroom in the apartment they shared with two Italian women.
Knox was convicted and then acquitted over the murder. Knox, now 39, said Thursday in an Instagram post that her comedy show “honors Meredith Kercher’s memory and calls out the violence that was done to her and to me.”
