attack kills 37
MYLA, Ukraine (AP) -- Ukrainian officials say a Russian drone attack on a warehouse west of Kyiv killed at least 37 people, making it the deadliest attack in the war this year.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on social media Saturday that the warehouse in Myla was housing shells, mines and other ammunition for the defense forces. He earlier said storing explosives in a residential area is illegal and that criminal proceedings had been launched.
The Friday night strike sparked explosions and fires that swept through nearby homes, including a care facility for elderly and disabled people where a local official says 34 died. Russia’s Defense Ministry says it targeted a warehouse storing drone components.
Icelandic voters
reject EU idea
REYKJAVIK, Iceland (AP) -- Iceland’s voters have rejected a referendum to restart negotiations to join the European Union. RÚV, the national broadcaster, said opponents defeated the measure by a margin of 52.8% to 47.2%.
The result will put the issue to rest for the second time about a decade after a euroskeptic government ended EU talks. The referendum was held amid concerns over U.S. President Donald Trump’s threats toward neighboring Greenland, prompting some voters to consider European solidarity.
Opponents cited fishing rights and existing benefits from the EU’s single market, while supporters argued for economic stability and closer ties with Europe.
Flash flood

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) -- Officials say dozens of people have been evacuated from the depths of the Grand Canyon because of heavy rain and flooding. The National Park Service says flash flooding on Saturday destroyed footbridges over a creek that flows into the Colorado River and sent large boulders and other debris downstream.
No injuries were reported but the park service says it’s seeking information about 15 people who may be missing or unaccounted for. Popular tourist spots including a campground and parts of a major trail that are now closed.
River rafting trips also have been halted. The park service says more than 60 people were evacuated and that the evacuations are continuing.
‘Spider-Man’
stays No. 1
NEW YORK (AP) -- Three years after Warner Bros. abruptly canned the Looney Tunes feature "Coyote vs. Acme," it has a new lease on life thanks to Ketchup Entertainment. The movie debuted with an estimated $15.5 million in ticket sales over the weekend.
For the fifth weekend in a row, "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" topped the North American box office. It grossed $22.2 million in U.S. and Canadian theaters, bringing its worldwide total to $2.33 billion and making it the fourth highest-grossing film of all time.
But "Coyote vs. Acme" fared best of the newcomers, debuting in second place. The Ridley Scott action drama "Dog Stars," with Jacob Elordi, flopped. It opened in fifth place with just $8 million.
