Norway native offering dance classes at Miss Donna’s School

KINGSFORD – Cecilie B. Haehe is from the little town of Amot in Norway and started her dance education at the age of six.

She is now a student at Northern Michigan University and will be holding dance classes at Donna’s School of Dance in Kingsford today, Saturday and Sunday.

There are classes for all ages.

Haehe’s education began at Trude Mossin Ballet School in Vikersund and she was a part of several recitals the school had a year. She noted that she received the leading role at the recital after a try-out process.

By the age of nine she began taking jazz lessons and by 15, she was attending dance classes five days a week and added Modern Dance to her curriculum. She was able then to travel to Oslo and take advanced classes at Bardar Dance Academy.

“Around this time my dance teacher asked if I was interested in becoming an instructor to teach beginner students. After teaching Ballet, Jazz, Modern and Hip Hop for several years, I realized this is what I want to do for a living,” Haehe said.

Her family moved in 2006 to Oslo and she attended the Norwegian College of Dance. She received a bachelor’s degree in teaching, with focus on Jazz and Hip Hop. She also took night classes at Trude Mossin Ballet School.

In 2010, Haehe and three of her friends had the chance to come to the United States for 2/12 months to pursue dance. They were able to take classes in New York with Jennifer Archibal, who is noted for hip hop, and Jena Hick, famous for her jazz.

In 2013, she joined the Hip Hop Crew Team in Norway called “Kick.” The dance team earned the Norwegian champion gold and silver awards.

In the European championship in April, they placed eighth in the world, bringing home silver.

Haehe been teaching for 10 years. She is certified in ballet, barr au sole, jazz, hip hop, zumba and pilates. She also produced and directed three recitals at the Trude Mossins Ballet School where ages ranged from 6-22.

In January, Haehe moved to Marquette, and is currently study at Northern Michigan University. She tried out for NMU’s Golden Glitz Hip Hop Team and received a perfect score – 10 out 10.

She noted that she heard about Miss Donna from her boyfriend’s mother, Paula Wiegele, who teaches gymnastics at the dance studio.

“Upon meeting Miss Donna and seeing her studio, I was delighted when she asked If I was interested in holding several workshops. Although I’ve never taken tap, I was in for a wonderful surprise when Miss Donna demonstrated her tap for me,” Haehe said.
