First National Bank & Trust employees make donation to the Salvation Army

IRON MOUNTAIN – First National Bank & Trust Co. of Iron Mountain’s fun committee recently hosted their first pie contest.

Employees and their families were encouraged to make it, bake it or fake it and bring a pie to work.

By giving a $5 donation, employees were encouraged to “taste test” any and all of the pies and then vote for their favorite by placing paper money in the cup next to the pie(s) they liked the most.

The pie with the most votes won a blue ribbon and bragging rights for a year.

“A nice variety was brought in and sampled by many. It was close right down to the end with only a few dollars separating the top three votegetters,” organizers said.

In the end, Mikki Hall won with her Bacon Egg Savory Pie.

According to fun committee representatives, the event was well-received but the real winners were the recipients of the money raised. First National Bank pledged to match any funds raised funds up to $100.

The main office staff collected $111 and was able to donate a total of $177 to the Salvation Army.

The Menominee office staff raised $56 and donated a total of $90 to the Daughters of the American Revolution.

“We chose the Salvation Army because 82 cents of every dollar spent by the Salvation Army goes directly to client service, the highest percentages of any major non-profit in the world. They provide nutritional meals and assist homeless people of all ages, as well as individuals and families who may be down on their luck and in need of some extra assistance,” committee members said.

If you wish to make a monetary or food donation or are in need of their services, you can reach the Salvation Army by calling 779-5717 or by visiting them at 212 Woodward Ave. in Iron Mountain.
