USA gymnastics instructor leading Northern Lights YMCA program
NORTHERN LIGHTS YMCA gymnastics instructor Calyn Miller works with Eva Ringel on the low bar inside the YMCA Gymnastics Center. New gymnastics classes began this week.
IRON MOUNTAIN – The winter/spring session III began this week at the Northern Lights YMCA, and long with a full line-up of youth, aquatics and fitness opportunities, with several classes being offered in the YMCA’s new gymnastics center.
From beginner to advanced, the gymnastics programming is led by USA gymnastics-certified instructor Calyn Miller. Miller, 23, joined the YMCA staff last fall.
“I am very excited and honored to be able to continue coaching and help the Northern Lights YMCA develop and grow their gymnastics program,” Miller said. “I truly love sharing my passion for gymnastics with the participants of the gymnastics program.”
Miller is a graduate of Northeast Wisconsin Technical College’s physical therapist assistant program. She was a competitive gymnast for the Marinette and Menominee Gliders for nearly 10 years and has coached gymnastics for the past seven years, working with various ages and skill levels.
Session III gymnastics offerings include a progressive class for ages 5-7 and 8-12. This class starts with the basics of floor, beam, vault and low-bar skills. These classes run Monday and Wednesday, Tuesday and Thursday, or Saturday and Sunday.
An advanced class, which is only by invitation, takes place Monday and Wednesday, or Tuesday and Thursday. Private lessons are also available. Friday and Saturday morning classes are available for pee wees, ages 3-5.
Open gym gymnastics takes place Fridays for children ages 5-12.
