DCHS among 100 Great Community Hospitals

CHICAGO — Dickinson County Healthcare System has been ranked among the nation’s 100 Great Community Hospitals by Becker’s Hospital Review for the third year in a row.

This list of 100 Great Community Hospitals includes independent community hospitals as well as facilities affiliated with large health systems. Some hospitals serve expansive rural geographies, while others care for small communities outside of large cities.

Many of the hospitals have been recognized for their clinical quality, operational excellence and economic impact on the surrounding areas. For the purposes of the list, Becker’s defines a community hospital as a facility with no more than 550 beds.

The Becker’s editorial team selected hospitals for inclusion based on several outside rankings and ratings organizations, including IBM Watson Health 100 Top Hospitals, iVantage Health Analytics and The Chartis Center for Rural Health’s Top 100 Rural and Community Hospitals, CareChex ratings, Leapfrog Group grades, Healthgrades awards and CMS stars, among other considerations.

Founded in 1952, Dickinson County Healthcare System employs 90 physicians. It was a Healthgrades’ Patient Safety Excellence Award recipient this year for the fourth consecutive year. It is among just three hospitals statewide to receive an Excellence Award for patient safety three years in a row from the Economic Alliance for Michigan.

“The most recent award is a testament to the consistency of the care that our health system provides to our patients,” said Joe Rizzo, DCHS public relations manager.

Becker’s Hospital Review is a trade publication produced by Becker’s Healthcare, a source of business and legal information for the health care industry.

Also on the list was Aurora BayCare Medical Center of Green Bay, Wis., a joint venture between Milwaukee-based Aurora Health Care and Green Bay-based BayCare Clinic that serves patients in the Green Bay area and communities in northeastern Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula. Established in 2001, the 167-bed hospital was recognized as one of IBM Watson’s 100 Top Hospitals in 2015 and 2016, and U.S. News & World Report named it a best regional hospital in 2016-17 for the fifth time.
