Thrivent offers free workshops on planning for college costs
IRON MOUNTAIN — Thrivent Financial will host a free educational workshop to help parents of high school students with their college planning.
The 60-minute College Planning Strategies workshop will be at 6 p.m. Sept. 26 in the Kingsford High School auditorium, 2000 Pyle Drive in Kingsford.
The workshop will be presented by Casey St. Henry, a financial representative with Thrivent Financial in Sturgeon Bay, Wis.
The workshop is designed to help parents and their students avoid mistakes that can arise throughout the college admission and selection process.
It also covers basic facts about financial aid, steps parents and students can take to help save money by using admission and academic strategies, and discovering funding sources to help pay for their child’s college education and other ways to help minimize out-of-pocket expenses.
“According to the College Board’s ‘Trends in College Pricing 2016,’ total cost of attendance averaged about $24,610 nationally at public, four-year, in-state undergraduate schools,” said Claire Valeski of Thrivent. “Without a thoughtful college strategy in place, families may sacrifice other financial goals and their students may be burdened with too much debt. This workshop can help families prepare.”
Additional workshop days and times are 5:30 p.m. Oct. 17 in the Pembine High School library in Pembine, Wis.; and 6 p.m. Oct. 22 in Bay College West auditorium in Iron Mountain.
No products will be sold at these events. Refreshments will be served.
