Cybersecurity event planned at Bay College West in Iron Mountain

IRON MOUNTAIN — The Dickinson Area Economic Development Alliance and Loyal 2 Local will host Guide Star’s Cybersecurity Best Practices and Insurance Requirements training event to raise awareness about cybersecurity and its importance.

The event will be from 8 to 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, in Fornetti Hall at Bay College West on U.S. 2 in Iron Mountain. A virtual option is available.

“Data breaches and cybercrime are at an all-time high for businesses of all sizes, and it’s important that business leaders have a cybersecurity plan for their organization and employees to recognize cyber threats.” said Evan Rice, senior vice president at Guide Star.

The training will consist of an in-person and virtual session for business leaders and employees. It will cover general cybersecurity information, basic end-user cybersecurity awareness, and cybersecurity insurance requirements. These topics will touch on threat/risk awareness, email-based compromises, social engineering, password policies, and requirements to obtain cyber insurance. The sessions will run from 8 to 9 a.m., with refreshments, snacks and networking afterwards until 10 a.m.

In addition to gaining valuable cybersecurity information, attendees will also have an opportunity to win one of three prizes from Guide Star. These prizes include a Cybersecurity Assessment, valued up to $2,000; Beats Headphones, valued at $100; and a gift card to any Loyal 2 Local participant, valued at $50.

This event is free and open to all. Those who are interested can register by going online to https://forms.gle/7jvNGtkeEsbyPY6N7 and filling out the form.
