IRON MOUNTAIN -- The Dickinson Area Chamber of Commerce had a recent ribbon-cutting celebration for a unique wellness-focused facility at 1401 S. Carpenter Ave. in Iron Mountain.
Designed to bring a variety of health, wellness and supportive services together under one roof, The Real Heal offers a collaborative environment for practitioners from multiple disciplines.
Current services available within the building include physical therapy, a wellness lounge featuring red light therapy, an amethyst mat, infrared sauna, Himalayan salt room, massage therapy, acupuncture, mental health services and a hair salon.
The building is also home to a vibrant community art gallery that brings creativity and life to its hallways, according to a chamber news release.
The Performance Studio hosts a variety of classes and activities, including pilates, taekwondo and chair yoga. Additionally, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services continues to operate within the building, complementing the mission of supporting the overall health and well-being of the community.
The vision for the wellness center was inspired by a deeply personal experience. After the passing of her sister in February 2023, owner Margo Juedes witnessed firsthand the challenges individuals face when navigating multiple health care appointments and providers.
"My hope was to create a place where practitioners from different specialties could work together under one roof for the benefit of the patient," Juedes said in the chamber news release. "This space was created in honor of my sister. You'll find touches of her throughout the building, including some of her plants, her favorite colors and even her handwriting on the walls. It's a place built with love, healing and community in mind."
The long-term vision includes fostering collaboration among providers through regular meetings focused on community support and care coordination. Juedes also hopes to eventually provide access to a walk-in mental health counselor for both clients and staff utilizing the facility.
The building currently has several rental opportunities available, including a fully equipped conference room for half-day or full-day use, as well as office suites ideal for health care providers and other professionals seeking a welcoming, wellness-oriented environment. The facility is also actively seeking additional instructors and organizations interested in offering classes and programs within the space.
"This center represents a unique approach to community wellness," Suzanne Larson, executive director of the Dickinson Area Chamber of Commerce, said in the news release. "By bringing together multiple services, practitioners and resources in one location, it creates a supportive environment that benefits both providers and those seeking care."
The hours vary for each business inside the building, but the physical therapy office is open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. The lounge is available from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. by appointment Monday through Friday. Walk-in hours are 8 a.m. to noon Mondays and Wednesdays and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday.
