IRON MOUNTAIN -- Harris State Wide Real Estate has joined the Dickinson Area Chamber of Commerce, celebrating with a ribbon-cutting ceremony outside its office in downtown Iron Mountain.

Chamber ambassadors, local officials, business representatives and community members followed the ceremony with a free cookout hosted by the Harris team. It provided an opportunity to meet the team and learn more about the locally based real estate brokerage.

Harris State Wide Real Estate carries on a four-generation family tradition in the real estate industry. The State Wide Real Estate franchise traces its roots to 1944, when Hugh A. Harris founded the company in Flint, Michigan. His business eventually became what is recognized as the oldest franchised real estate company in America, according to a chamber news release.

The Harris family's real estate tradition continues today through Steve Harris and his son, Hugh Harris. Steve has been licensed as a broker in Michigan and Wisconsin since the 1980s and moved to the Iron Mountain area in 1989. In late 2018, Steve and Hugh opened Harris State Wide Real Estate in the historic Moose Jackson building in downtown Iron Mountain.

Hugh represents the fourth generation of the Harris family to enter the real estate profession. After earning his broker's license at a young age, he has focused on combining personal service and local expertise of traditional real estate with modern marketing, professional photography, and technology.

The brokerage operates throughout the central Upper Peninsula and neighboring Wisconsin communities. Its services include residential, commercial, recreational, and vacant land properties.
