Dickinson adds 26 virus cases, 1 death

State data Friday showed 26 new confirmed COVID-19 positives in Dickinson County in the past two days — along with a new death blamed on the virus — while Iron County had 12 new cases.

Figures on the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services coronavirus website Friday indicated 242 new confirmed COVID-19 positives in the Upper Peninsula since Wednesday: 64 in Marquette County, 30 in Delta County, 26 in Dickinson County, 23 in Menominee County, 20 in Gogebic County, 19 in Houghton County, 14 in Chippewa County, 12 in Iron County, 10 in Baraga County, seven in Schoolcraft County, six in Luce County, four in Mackinac and Ontonagon counties, and three in Alger County. The state posted two more virus-related deaths in Chippewa County and one each in Dickinson, Delta, Marquette, Houghton and Gogebic counties.

Using only the MDHHS numbers, the Upper Peninsula as of Friday has had 34,233 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 614 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Friday had Keweenaw County at 343 confirmed cases and 43

probable, and eight confirmed deaths and one probable death; Luce County, 438 confirmed cases and 502 probable, four confirmed deaths and one probable death; Ontonagon County, 633 confirmed, 77 probable and 24 deaths, one probable; Alger County, 659 confirmed, 364 probable and four deaths, five probable; Schoolcraft County, 781 confirmed cases and 345 probable, six deaths and one probable; Mackinac County, 1,048 confirmed cases and 549 probable, 16 deaths and one probable; Baraga County, 1,226 confirmed cases, 209 probable and 44 deaths, two probable; Iron County, 1,604 confirmed cases and 188 probable, 57 deaths and 13 probable; Gogebic County, 1,788 confirmed cases and 426 probable, 29 deaths and 29 probable; Chippewa County, 1,982 confirmed cases and 2,795 probable, and 51 deaths, 11 probable; Menominee County, 2,959 confirmed cases, 1,059 probable and 50 deaths, eight probable; Dickinson County, 3,522 confirmed cases and 1,322 probable, 72 deaths and 17 probable; Houghton County, 4,608 confirmed cases, 846 probable, 53 deaths and 10 probable; Delta County, 5,588 confirmed cases and 1,257 probable, 108 deaths and 21 probable; and Marquette County, 7,054 confirmed cases, 1,620 probable and 88 deaths, five probable. State figures can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS had 11,783 new confirmed coronavirus positives in Michigan since Wednesday, or an average of about 5,892 per day for the two-day period, for a total to date of 1,380,324. The state since Wednesday has added 235 deaths attributed to the virus — including 151 that occurred earlier but were recently verified through a vital records review — to reach 25,080.

The state issues new COVID-19 data on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

For the five Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Friday had 31 new confirmed positives in Marinette County, 21 in Vilas County and 13 in Forest County; Iron County’s count was reduced by three and Florence County’s by one. The state added a new death in Marinette, Forest and Vilas counties.

The DHS data site Friday had Marinette County with 7,020 confirmed cases, 1,410 probable cases and 76 deaths, 11 probable deaths; Vilas County, 3,348 confirmed, 187 probable and 60 deaths, four probable; Forest County, 1,675 confirmed, 143 probable and 31 deaths, five probable; Iron County, 804 confirmed, 203 probable and 22 deaths, 21 probable; and Florence County, 601 confirmed, 145 probable and 14 deaths.

Wisconsin data Friday showed 5,718 more positives in the state for a total of 911,568 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date. The state recorded 46 more virus-related deaths to reach 9,344.
