COVID-19 cases rise across UP

State data Monday showed Dickinson County had 83 more confirmed COVID-19 positives in the past three days and Iron County 39 new cases.

Figures on the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services coronavirus website Monday indicated 1,022 new confirmed COVID-19 positives in the Upper Peninsula since Friday: 302 in Marquette County, 160 in Houghton County, 146 in Delta County, 97 in Chippewa County, 83 in Dickinson County, 58 in Gogebic County, 47 in Menominee County, 39 in Iron County, 29 in Mackinac County, 14 in Alger County, 12 in Baraga County, 11 in Ontonagon County, nine in Schoolcraft County, eight in Luce County and seven in Keweenaw County. The state recorded one more virus-related death in the region, in Marquette County, while reducing Baraga County’s toll by one.

Using only the MDHHS numbers, the Upper Peninsula as of Monday has had 45,798 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 719 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Monday had Keweenaw County at 414 confirmed cases and 48 probable, and 10 confirmed deaths and one probable death; Luce County, 588 confirmed cases and 697 probable, six confirmed deaths and one probable death; Ontonagon County, 810 confirmed, 98 probable and 30 deaths, two probable; Alger County, 929 confirmed, 606 probable and six deaths, five probable; Schoolcraft County, 983 confirmed cases and 539 probable, 11 deaths and one probable; Mackinac County, 1,372 confirmed cases and 776 probable, 23 deaths and two probable; Baraga County, 1,559 confirmed cases, 261 probable and 48 deaths, two probable; Iron County, 2,048 confirmed cases and 257 probable, 61 deaths and 13 probable; Gogebic County, 2,500 confirmed cases and 475 probable, 35 deaths and 29 probable; Chippewa County, 2,860 confirmed cases and 4,381 probable, and 66 deaths,13 probable; Menominee County, 3,557 confirmed cases, 1,470 probable and 56 deaths, eight probable; Dickinson County, 4,463 confirmed cases and 2,121 probable, 78 deaths and 18 probable; Houghton County, 6,082 confirmed cases, 1,011 probable, 71 deaths and 11 probable; Delta County, 7,210 confirmed cases and 1,823 probable, 120 deaths and 23 probable; and Marquette County, 10,423 confirmed cases, 2,834 probable and 98 deaths, five probable. State figures can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS on Monday had 39,372 new confirmed coronavirus positives in Michigan since Friday, or an average of 13,124 per day for the three-day period, for a total to date of 1,905,639. The state since Friday added 36 deaths attributed to the virus to reach 29,226.

The state issues new COVID-19 data on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

The Upper Peninsula as of Monday had 74 people hospitalized with COVID-19, including 16 adults in intensive care and six on ventilators, according to Frontline UPdates JIC, a group of health care communication professionals from the U.P.

Statewide Monday, 3,941 adults were hospitalized with COVID-19 — plus 92 pediatric patients — with 733 adults in ICU beds and 467 on ventilators.
