Two new virus cases in Dickinson

But state data has no change for Iron County in past two days

State data Wednesday indicates the pace of area COVID-19 activity has slowed to a crawl, with only two new confirmed positives in Dickinson County and none in Iron County since Monday.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services coronavirus website Wednesday added 39 more confirmed positives in the Upper Peninsula for the two-day period: nine in Marquette and Houghton counties; five in Alger County; four in Baraga County; three in Menominee and Chippewa counties; two in Dickinson and Delta counties; and one in Schoolcraft, Mackinac and Luce counties; Ontonagon County’s count was reduced by one. The state listed 10 more virus-related death in the U.P.: four in Marquette County, two in Chippewa County and one each in Iron, Delta, Schoolcraft and Luce counties.

Using only the MDHHS numbers, the Upper Peninsula as of Wednesday has had 50,877 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 813 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Wednesday had Keweenaw County at 451 confirmed cases and 53 probable, and 12 confirmed deaths and one probable death; Luce County, 655 confirmed cases and 763 probable, nine confirmed deaths and one probable death; Ontonagon County, 865 confirmed, 105 probable and 34 deaths, two probable; Alger County, 1,043 confirmed, 660 probable and eight deaths, five probable; Schoolcraft County, 1,076 confirmed cases and 670 probable, 13 deaths and three probable; Mackinac County, 1,532 confirmed cases and 840 probable, 27 deaths and two probable; Baraga County, 1,706 confirmed cases, 319 probable and 51 deaths, two probable; Iron County, 2,298 confirmed cases and 339 probable, 70 deaths and 16 probable; Gogebic County, 2,717 confirmed cases and 525 probable, 39 deaths and 29 probable; Chippewa County, 3,357 confirmed cases and 5,044 probable, and 82 deaths, 16 probable; Menominee County, 3,865 confirmed cases, 1,694 probable and 60 deaths, nine probable; Dickinson County, 4,982 confirmed cases and 2,379 probable, 85 deaths and 22 probable; Houghton County, 6,637 confirmed cases, 1,077 probable, 78 deaths and 11 probable; Delta County, 7,854 confirmed cases and 2,043 probable, 130 deaths and 25 probable; and Marquette County, 11,839 confirmed cases, 3,030 probable and 115 deaths, 10 probable. State figures can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS on Wednesday had 1,739 new confirmed coronavirus positives in Michigan since Monday, or an average of about 870 per day for the two-day period, for a total to date of 2,064,093. The state since Monday added 240 deaths attributed to the virus — including 220 that occurred earlier but were recently verified through a vital records review — to reach 32,374.

The state issues new COVID-19 data on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

For the five Wisconsin counties in the region, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services on Wednesday had Marinette County at 11,517 COVID-19 positives, up nine, and 114 deaths, up one, since Monday; Vilas County, unchanged at 5,187 positives and 87 deaths; Forest County, unchanged at 2,666 positives and 50 deaths; Iron County, 1,461 positives, up one, and 47 deaths; and Florence County, 1,076 positives, up one, and 15 deaths.
