Coronavirus activity in the region held steady for the past week, state health data showed.

Dickinson County recorded 22 new confirmed virus positives since March 14, one fewer than the previous week, according to figures posted Tuesday on the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services coronavirus website. Iron County had 13 new cases, up two compared with the week before.

The MDHHS website Tuesday added 177 confirmed COVID-19 positives since March 14, down 53 from the previous week, to the Upper Peninsula’s tally: 56 in Marquette County; 22 in Dickinson County; 21 in Gogebic County; 18 in Houghton County; 15 in Delta County; 13 in Iron County; 10 in Menominee County; six in Chippewa County; five in Baraga County; four in Luce County; three in Schoolcraft County; and one each in Keweenaw, Ontonagon, Mackinac and Alger counties.

No county in the U.P. had a new confirmed death blamed on COVID-19.

Based on the MDHHS figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Tuesday has had 64,518 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 989 confirmed deaths since pandemic tracking began in March 2020.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data Tuesday had Keweenaw County at 602 confirmed cases and 65 probable, and 15 confirmed deaths and one probable death; Luce County, 790 confirmed cases and 890 probable, 17 confirmed deaths and seven probable deaths; Ontonagon County, 1,207 confirmed, 147 probable and 42 deaths, three probable; Alger County, 1,295 confirmed, 872 probable and nine deaths, 11 probable; Schoolcraft County, 1,413 confirmed cases and 827 probable, 14 deaths and six probable; Mackinac County, 1,948 confirmed cases and 1,058 probable, 34 deaths and six probable; Baraga County, 2,165 confirmed cases, 460 probable and 60 deaths, two probable; Iron County, 3,213 confirmed cases and 429 probable, 84 deaths and 17 probable; Gogebic County, 3,648 confirmed cases and 712 probable, 44 deaths and 34 probable; Chippewa County, 4,252 confirmed cases and 6,067 probable, and 99 deaths, 21 probable; Menominee County, 4,987 confirmed cases, 2,249 probable and 69 deaths, 16 probable; Dickinson County, 6,327 confirmed cases and 3,128 probable, 107 deaths and 25 probable; Houghton County, 8,372 confirmed cases, 1,257 probable, 96 deaths and 12 probable; Delta County, 9,174 confirmed cases and 3,387 probable, 152 deaths and 41 probable; and Marquette County, 15,125 confirmed cases, 4,485 probable and 147 deaths, 23 probable.

The MDHHS on Tuesday added 5,989 new confirmed and probable coronavirus positives in Michigan since March 14, down 1,449 for the week, or an average of about 856 cases per day for the seven-day period, for a total of 3,077,552 cases since COVID tracking began. The state since March 14 recorded 89 confirmed and probable deaths attributed to the virus, up 16, to reach 42,367.

The state updates COVID-19 data once a week, usually on Tuesdays.

For the five Wisconsin counties in the region, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services on Wednesday had Marinette County at 14,643 COVID-19 positives so far, up 38 since March 15, and 149 deaths; Vilas County, 6,525 positives, up eight, and 108 deaths; Forest County, 3,380 positives, up 20, and 56 deaths; Iron County, 1,831 positives, up nine, and 50 deaths; and Florence County, 1,352 positives, no change, and 17 deaths.
