As Election Day approaches, you hear candidates saying they want to be your voice. In order to be your voice, you should know a little bit about who I am.
My name is Pamela Maule; I was born and raised in Iron Mountain, where I attended Immaculate Conception Catholic School and Iron Mountain High School. Following, I graduated from the Michael Reese School of Nursing in Chicago and am currently a registered nurse at Dickinson County Hospital.
I presently serve on the Michigan Nurse’s Association Board of Directors where I advocated for patient issues at the state and federal levels. This experience gives me the ability to be your voice and advocate for Dickinson County if we are in need of support from the state.
As county commissioner I will listen to your concerns in my efforts to represent the people of Dickinson County, and effectively be your voice. There are also certain issues we must address that I will prioritize. First, we must protect the services and businesses our community already offers, and make our county inviting to prospective businesses and invest in opportunities for our citizens to flourish.
Further, we must invest in our children by fostering public education in our community. We must also maintain and enhance extracurricular activities for our citizens to enjoy, such as the YMCA, performing arts, senior centers, as well as parks and recreational areas. Finally, we must be financially responsible in these endeavors in order to achieve a prosperous Dickinson County.
I will bring new insight and perspective to the decision making of the county board. It is our obligation to be involved in our communities, and you can start by making your vote count on Nov. 4. I will appreciate your vote on Election Day.

I am seeking re-election to the Dickinson County Board of Commissioners – District 2, which is the heart of Iron Mountain. I have served as a commissioner for 10 years. My enthusiasm and dedication in serving you and our community have not waned a bit.
I believe your county commissioner should have the experience and know-how to effectively utilize all resources in fulfilling the expectations of the position; should work to minimize governmental intrusion into citizens’ lives; should be committed to the prudent management of citizen tax dollars; should encourage economic growth and development; and should have an ever-responsive ear, encouraging input, ideas and concerns from all citizens. These are standards to which I will measure my performance.
The current county board, teamed with excellent and hard-working county employees, has worked diligently in a number of areas-the Northern Lights YMCA, Ford Airport, the emergency 911 system, the county recreation plan, balancing the budget, holding the line on taxes, and safeguarding the fund balance. This work must go forward.
My goals for another term are to 1) avoid new taxes, the expansion of government, and the institution of unnecessary programs; 2) ensure that our hospital and health care system remain viable and secure; 3) be a supportive and encouraging partner in economic development efforts; 4) secure the YMCA as a permanent presence in Dickinson County without fiscal contributions; 5) continue to support Bay West to bring further education to our citizens, especially in the area of technical training.
In my opinion, the crucial underpinning of all initiatives is a strong financial position. We must meet current obligations and formulate budgets that balance citizen needs and wants with county resources.
