Bass Festival results released

CRYSTAL FALLS – The winners of various events at this year’s Bass Festival in Crystal Falls have been announced.
In the commercial parade, Iron Conservation took first place, North Country took second, and Stateline Chevy took third.
In the theme parade, Green Cliffs took first place, Alpha Anglers took second, and Kiwanis Aktion took third.
In the comedy parade, Fortune Lake Camp took first place, First National Bank took second, and Chippewa Sno Kats took third.
In all three parades, awards were $100 for first place, $50 for second, and $40 for third.
In the men’s canoe race, Bryan LaChapelle and Bryan LaChapelle came in first, Nick Baumgartner and Keke Higdon were second, and Kyle Lavacque and Jacob Siler were third.
In the women’s canoe race, Kristy Gussert and Gary Frestrom came in first, Anna Corenlia and Katlyn LaChapelle were second, and Kristin LaChapelle and Krista Cone were third.
The Crystal Falls Lions Club announced that this year’s Bass Festival fishing contest was again very successful.
“The entire project was successful due to the hard work put in by Lion Paul Kaylor, the very generous donations of local businesses and individuals, and the numerous participants in the contest,” said Lion Eugene Schiavo.
Fishing contest winners received $390 in cash as well as prizes such as fishing rods, reels and lures, and ice chest coolers. Every child who entered received a gift or two, Schiavo said.
Fishing contest results are listed below:
-Northern pike: Grover Campbell, 10 lbs 10 oz; Cody Armstrong, 3 lbs 8 oz.
-Smallmouth bass: Robert Dubnick, 5 lbs 11 oz; Joe Velie, 3 lbs 5 oz.
-Largemouth bass: Jake Maki, 3 lbs 8 oz; Elijah Kudwa, 3 lbs 7 oz.
-Crappie: Ed Pepin, 9 oz 10 7/8 in; Sean Caron, 9 oz 10 1/12 in.
-Perch: Jessie Loehr, 2 oz; Cody Armstrong 1 oz.
-Bluegill: Emma Marotz, 7 oz; Jim Caron 5 oz.
-Walleye: Nikki Fagotti Elwood, 3 lbs 5 oz; Jake Maki, 1 lb 8 oz.
Fish were registered and weighed at Crystal Bait & Marine. Donations of $800 towards the fishing contest were received from Jacobs Funeral Home, Minerick Logging, Chris Ponchaud Construction, Covantage Credit Union, Powerhouse Small Engine, First National Bank, Edward Jones, Crystal Lumber, Crystal Falls Health Mart, Roxan Verry, and Scott Kenny, CPA.
Northern Concrete took first place in the volleyball competition, earning a prize of $180. Green Cliff earned $100 for second place, and Diver Down $50 for third.
In addition, many festivalgoers took home prizes from the drawing held at the event. Jessica Martin of Williston, N.D. won $1,000; Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain won $500 and $275; Lisa Oslund of Kingsford won $400; Fred Stoor of Crystal Falls won $225; Paul Grousse of Missouri won $150; and Todd Shamion of Crystal Falls won $100.
Prizes of $50 were awarded to Joy Fredericks of Crystal Falls; Roger Stoor of Crystal Falls; Judi Nyholm of Crystal Falls; J.C. Maki of Amasa; Kim Nylund of Crystal Falls; Glen Erickson of Crystal Falls; Margaret Minerick of Sagola; Edward Jones of Crystal Falls; Meghan Schmitt of Jefferson, Ore.; Diane Dorow of New London, Wis.; and Ann Robinson of Appleton, Wis.
Children were able to enjoy an inflatable bounce house for free this year, as Joy Fredericks donated the cost in memory of her father.
