Murder suspect Cochran extradited
IRON RIVER – A woman charged with homicide in the 2014 disappearance of an Iron River man is expected to be back in Iron County early Monday morning after being extradited from Kentucky.
Kelly Cochran, 33, of Merrillville, Ind., was picked up at Graves County Jail in Kentucky by Prisoner Transport Services at about 7 p.m. Wednesday, Iron County Prosecuting Attorney Melissa Powell said.
But Cochran will not reach Iron County until about 5 a.m. Monday, Powell said. Originally it had been anticipated Cochran might return today.
Cochran was arrested April 28 by U.S. Marshals and the Kentucky State Police in Wingo, Ky., on Iron County charges of homicide, concealing the death of an individual, conspiracy to mutilate a dead body and lying to a peace officer.
Iron River Police Chief Laura Frizzo, while not naming Cochran, said May 2 that a 33-year-old woman had been arrested in connection to the disappearance of Christopher Karl Regan almost two years ago.
Regan, 53, went missing from his Iron River residence on Oct. 14, 2014, and his vehicle was found three days later in a Michigan Department of Transportation carpool lot at Bates-Amasa Road and U.S. 2 in Bates Township.
Frizzo said the suspect in the case – believed to be one of the last people to see Regan – left Michigan immediately after her residence was searched in March 2015 and had been living in Hobart, Ind.
The day Cochran was arrested, Hobart Police Department had notified Iron River police she had fled into Kentucky.
Cochran was known to have a husband while living in Caspian who also left the area at the same time. A man named Jason Cochran, listed as married for 13 years to a woman named Kelly, died Feb. 20 in Merrillville, according to an obituary from Burns Funeral Home in Crown Point, Ind.
A search of the Caspian Pit in Leo Remondini Jr. Memorial Park in Caspian last October that involved the FBI and a host of other law enforcement and forensic agencies yielded “items of significance,” Frizzo said.
