Barn Cat Buddies and Babies still has kittens to be adopted

IRON MOUNTAIN – Barn Cat Buddies and Babies, a voluntary non-profit association, recently held a kitten adoption event at Pet Supplies Plus in Iron Mountain. And of the kittens that were available for adoption at the event, many found homes.

There are still several other kittens available. They can be viewed at the Barn Cat Buddies and Babies Facebook group page. Adoption applications are available on the page.

There is a special on adoption fees – $40 for one kitten or $60 for 2. Adopting two kittens together is highly encouraged.

Barn Cat Buddies and Babies is a voluntary association in the Iron Mountain area dedicated to reducing the unwanted cat population. They pay for the free or low cost sterilization of feral (farm) cats and other cats of breeding age.

The program will also provide for spaying of female domestic cats which have litters of kittens. The Program takes in the kittens and place them in secure foster homes. After they are sterilized they are adopted to carefully screened families.

Placing kittens in foster homes is an important part of the program and ensures that when adopted, the kittens are healthy, friendly and well socialized. The program expresses appreciation to the foster caregivers. Without their efforts and dedication the Program could not exist and so many kittens would not have been saved.

The program has been in existence for approximately three years. In that time they have sterilized more than 500 cats and hundreds of kittens have been placed for adoption.

“The program is not just about the well being of cats, It is also about bringing happiness to the families who adopt. Kittens bring love and companionship and become treasured family members,” a spokesperson said.

The program is funded entirely by donations from the public and kitten adoption fees. No individual receives funds of any kind from the program except the foster caregivers for supplies for the cats or kittens in their care.

Persons wishing to contribute to the support of the Barn Cat Buddies and Babies program can do so on the YouCaring page that has been established at www.youcaring.com/barncatbuddies.

Donations can also be sent directly to Kari Laurent, 3026 Bass Lake Rd., Iron Mountain, Mich. 49801.
