IRON MOUNTAIN – A faithful supporter of Special Olympics for 40 years, the Lake Antoine Classic has donated $2,625 from the 2017 event to support local area Special Olympians and their pursuit of athletics.

“We are so thankful for all the businesses, organization and groups that support our Special Olympic events and Olympians,” said Laura Doney, Special Olympics representative. “The Lake Antoine Classic continues to be our major fundraiser each year, helping us to underwrite many of our athletic activities.”

Earlier this month, more than 175 walkers, runners and bikers participated in the annual event sponsored by Dickinson County Healthcare System, Systems Control and WLUC-TV6.

Race committee member Katie Maxon expressed the importance of the local sponsors.

“We just couldn’t do it without our sponsors,” she said. “Their donations cover the cost of the race, allowing us to donate proceeds from registration to Special Olympics.”

Committee member Kathy Kulas added, “We also appreciate our faithful volunteers … they bring it all together, keeping event participants safe and well directed.”

Racers and walkers again enjoyed a large variety of fresh fruit and bagels compliments of Econo Foods. Pepsi-Cola of Iron Mountain donated water and City Sales kept it all cool with a donation of ice in an extra-large basin borrowed from Tractor Supply.

Starting at $3.50/week.
