Two reach plea deals in methamphetamine bust

IRON MOUNTAIN — Two men involved in a July methamphetamine bust in Iron Mountain have reached plea agreements with the prosecution.
Shawn Marshall Brewer, 28, of St. Ignace pleaded guilty in Dickinson County Circuit Court to possession of methamphetamine, a 10-year felony, as a habitual offender-fourth, which increases the maximum penalty to life in prison.
The Dickinson County Prosecutor’s Office dismissed felony charges of possession with intent to deliver or manufacture methamphetamine and possession of a short-barreled shotgun.
Brewer will be sentenced Jan. 22.
Bryan Christopher Ray, 38, of Gwinn pleaded guilty to possession of burglar’s tools, a 10-year felony.

In exchange, prosecutors dismissed felony charges of possession with intent to deliver or manufacture methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine and possession of a short-barreled shotgun.
Sentencing was set for Dec. 18.
Iron Mountain police approached a vehicle in a motel parking lot July 6 after receiving a tip of suspected drug activity, according to the initial IMPD press release.
Brewer and Ray were in the vehicle, along with 19-year-old Dimon Markea Thompson of Gwinn and 21-year-old Paige Marie Wade of Rapid River.
Officers searching the vehicle found components of a methamphetamine lab, methamphetamine, an uncapped hypodermic needle, a sawed-off shotgun, a handgun and burglary tools, according to the criminal complaint.
Thompson and Wade already have been sentenced on misdemeanor charges to jail and probation.
