Biking, marathon in the snow
The Iron Mountain area offered almost perfect conditions Saturday for the Frostbitten 50, the first winter ultramarathon to take place in the Upper Peninsula. The competition included a 50k, 25k and 10k run on the groomed trails at the Fumee Lake Natural Area in Breitung Township. The event also featured a 12- and 24-mile fat tire Snotcycle Bike Race. Both sets of races drew competitors from as far away as Minnesota and southern Wisconsin.
