Seven seniors named as top scholars for Norway High School Class of 2018

NORWAY — Norway High School has announced its senior scholars for the Class of 2018.

They include Alan Kay, Taryn Davis, Joshua Plante, Jenna Johnson, Micah Wilson, Emily St. Vincent and Karli Stanchina.

Alan William Kay, son of Chad and Stacey Kay of Norway, plans to study neuroscience at the University of Michigan. Kay participated in football, co-op soccer, art club and is a member of the National Honor Society.

Taryn Kelsey Davis, daughter of Steven and Deborah Davis of Norway, plans to study chemical engineering at the University of Michigan this fall. Davis was active in YAC and Spanish Club. She also participated in ice hockey and soccer and is a National Honor Society member.

Joshua James Plante, son of William and Trisha Plante of Norway, plans to attend Bay West College this fall and then pursue an engineering degree at Michigan Technological University. Plante was Student Council class representative, a member of Key Club, YAC and Big Brothers/Big Sisters. He also is a National Honor Society member and participated in many high school sports such as track, baseball, basketball and football. He has received many awards. including this year’s Quentin Nolte trophy for outstanding male athlete.

JENNA JOHNSON

Jenna Nichole Johnson, daughter of Rod and Michelle of Vulcan, plans to study pre-professional health at Bay de Noc Community College. She was senior class vice president at Norway and a member of the art club, prom committee and National Honor Society. She also participated in softball, volleyball and cheerleading through high school.

Micah Elias Wilson, son of Lonnie and Kathy Wilson of Norway, will pursue a civil engineering degree at Michigan Technological University this fall. Wilson in high school has been in baseball, football, basketball, track and golf. He also was a Key Club, YAC, Student Council, Youth Group and National Honor Society member.

Emily Jacquelyn St. Vincent, daughter of Angela Oslund of Vulcan and Eric St.Vincent of Norway, plans to study nursing at St. Norbert College in Green Bay, Wis. She is YAC president, Key Club secretary and a member of the National Honor Society. She also is active in dance and has a part-time job.

Karli Marie Stanchina, daughter of Joe and Diane Stanchina of Vulcan, plans to pursue a business administration degree this fall at St. Norbert College. Stanchina in high school participated in basketball, softball and cross country. She was awarded the Clarence “Towe” Castelaz trophy this year for outstanding female academic athlete. Stanchina also was senior class secretary/treasurer.
