Free Citizen’s Academy offered at Norway center

IRON MOUNTAIN — The Michigan State Police’s Iron Mountain Post will offer a free, six-week Citizens’ Academy at the Norway Senior Center at 608 Main St. from July 11 through Aug. 15.

The academy will meet at 10:30 a.m. every Wednesday during this time period.

Individuals age 18 and older are invited to participate and become familiar with the mission and operation of the MSP, understand procedures troopers follow, increase their awareness of law enforcement’s role in the community, and get to know personnel at the Iron Mountain Post.

Topics include patrol and dispatch procedures, introduction to first aid, understanding use of force, personal safety, home safety, traffic safety, legal system, criminal investigation, and drug awareness.

The academy concludes with a graduation ceremony.

Those interested in attending the academy should contact Trooper Geno Basanese at 906-774-2122 or basaneseg@michigan.gov.
