Iron River woman claims $300,000 lottery prize

Robert and Lynn Burke of Iron River claimed a big prize this week from a Michigan Lottery instant game ticket.

LANSING – An Iron River woman says winning $300,000 on a Double Bonus Cashword instant game ticket is overwhelming.

“My husband and I were leaving for a wedding, so I bought a few tickets to scratch on the ride down state,” said Lynn Burke. “I scratched the third ticket off and the last word I found was ‘okay.’ I thought to myself: ‘I sure did better than okay if this is really a winner’

“My husband pulled off the highway at the next exit so we could scan the ticket. When the clerk handed us a slip that said to file a claim, we knew it was real!”

Burke, 61, bought her winning ticket at the Holiday gas station, located at 19 West Adams St. in Iron River.

“We were going to be down state for the next few days, so we called the Lottery to make an appointment to come claim the prize,” said Burke. “Neither one of us has slept much because we’re afraid that if we do we’ll wake up and find out this has all been a dream.”

Lynn Burke's Double Bonus Cashword instant game ticket was worth $300,000.

Burke plans to complete some home improvements with her prize and share some with her family.

“Winning is so overwhelming I can’t describe it. I keep thinking: ‘Is this real?'” Burke said.

Players have won more than $25 million playing Double Bonus Cashword, which launched in August 2017. Each $5 ticket offers players a chance to win prizes ranging from $5 up to $300,000.
