Iron Mountain students to take part in Michigan Youth Leadership Conference

IRON MOUNTAIN — Iron Mountain High School sophomores, Leah Larsen, McKenna Smith, Gabe Celello, Arianna Morel, Claire Mongrain, Lexi Hagan and Dante Basanese have been selected to attend MYLead — Michigan Youth Leadership Conference in June on the campus of Michigan State University.

Larson is the daughter of Joanne and Mark Larsen of Iron Mountain. She has been involved in the Youth Advisory Committee , Tri-Hi-Y Club, basketball, volleyball and soccer while at IMHS. She was named the Daily News Student of The Week and is on the IMHS Honor Roll. She has completed more than 140 hours of volunteer service and is active in her church. Outside of school, she enjoys skiing and participates in the Norway City Band.

Smith is the daughter of Dawn and Rick Smith of Iron Mountain. She earned the Inland Seas scholarship, is a member of the IMHS Honor Roll and participates in volleyball and soccer. She is also a member of the Big Sister program, the Youth Advisory Committee and the Youth Empowerment Team. Outside of the classroom, Smith enjoys volunteering in our community, plays club volleyball and enjoys the outdoors.

Celello is the son of Andrea and Michael Celello of Iron Mountain. He is a member of Key Club and the IMHS Student Council. He participates in soccer, Varsity Club, Youth in Government and is a member of the IMHS Honor Roll. Celello gives of his time being an active tutor at school and volunteers at his church. Outside of school, he is a member of the Northern Stars Soccer Club and also works a part-time job.

Morel is the daughter of Michelle and Gustavo Morel of Iron Mountain. She is a member of the Student Council, Spanish Club, currently serving as secretary, Key Club and Varsity Club. She participates in both soccer and tennis. She is a member of the IMHS Honor Roll also. Morel is very involved in competitive dance outside of the classroom.

Mongrain is the daughter of Lauri and Rodney Mongrain of Kingsford. While at IMHS, she participates in Spanish Club, Varsity Club, Key Club, tennis, baskeball and softball. She is also a member of the IMHS Honor Roll. Mongrain works a part-time job, is active in her church and also participates in the community schools summer tennis program.

Hagan is the daughter of Laura and Mark Hagan of Breitung Township. She participates in student council, Key Club, the Smile Program as a student mentor and the Big Sister program. She also plays high school volleyball and club volleyball. Hagan is a member of the IMHS Honor Roll. Outside of school, she is active in her church youth ministry.

Basanese is the son of Lisa and Geno Basanese of Iron Mountain. He participates in Key Club, Varsity Club, football, basketball, track and golf. He is a member of the IMHS Honor Roll, earned The Daily News Student of the Week award and the Prudential Spirit of Community nomination. Basanese is active outside of the classroom, volunteering at the VA Hospital and Robotics Club. He also works summer lawn care.
