Search on for missing snowmobiler in Marquette County

DENNIS PELLINEN

MARQUETTE — A search continued today for a missing snowmobiler who was last seen near his McFarland home in southern Marquette County, authorities said.

Dennis Frederick Pellinen, 54, of Ishpeming, was reported missing Monday, as he had not been seen since he left his secondary residence in McFarland around 6 p.m. Sunday on a snowmobile.

Pellinen did not report for work Monday and was then reported missing around 4:40 p.m. by family members who live across the street from his secondary residence in McFarland, said Marquette County Undersheriff Daniel Willey.

Authorities have been searching for Pellinen since Monday night in the area of County Road 444 without success. A Valley Med Flight helicopter also assisted.

Pellinen was wearing a black Carhartt jacket and driving a blue and gray 2003 SRX Yamaha snowmobile. It is believed he was not wearing a helmet when he left on the snowmobile.

Delta County’s search and rescue unit has aided Marquette County units in the search, officials said, as the secondary residence in McFarland was near the Delta County line.

Willey also expected a Michigan State Police helicopter to join the search today.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information to call Marquette County Central Dispatch at 906-475-9912.
