Juvenile arrested after IM store clerk stabbed

Woman treated for injuries and released

IRON MOUNTAIN — A 15-year-old male suspect was taken into custody Friday night after a 22-year-old female clerk was stabbed at the Krist Oil convenience store at 1017 S. Stephenson Ave. in Iron Mountain, said Edwin C. Mattson, Iron Mountain director of police and fire services.

In a news release, Mattson labeled the incident an attempted murder.

The store clerk was treated for her injuries and released from Dickinson County Memorial Hospital, police said Saturday.

Officers arrived at the store just after 9:16 p.m. to find the clerk had been stabbed several times with a knife by a juvenile male who had come into the building.

The suspect had fled on foot but was arrested a very short time later inside the McDonald’s restaurant on U.S. 2 just south of the convenience store, Mattson said.

The suspect was lodged in a juvenile detention center pending court action, Mattson said, adding no further information would be released at this time.

No names were given in the incident, which remains under investigation by the Iron Mountain Police Department.

The Iron Mountain Police Department was assisted by the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Department, Michigan State Police, Kingsford Public Safety Department and the Veterans Administration Police Department.
