Three injured in snowmobile crashes in Alger County

ALGER COUNTY — The Alger County Sheriff’s Office dealt with three separate snowmobile crashes Saturday.

About 2:15 p.m., a 38-year-old man went off Trail No. 7 on a curve and struck a tree in AuTrain Township. He was extricated by Alger County Rescue 21 and taken to UP Health System in Marquette. Excessive speed is believed to have factored in the crash.

The second crash happened about 4:22 p.m., also on Trail No. 7. A 35-year-old man missed a curve, went off the trail and hit a tree. He was taken to Munising Memorial Hospital for treatment. Speed and alcohol are believed to have contributed to that accident.

The third crash was about 5:30 p.m. on Trail No. 8 in Burt Township. A 40-year-old man was eastbound when he hit a large mogul in the trail and was ejected from the snowmobile, landing about 150 feet away. He was taken to UPHS-Marquette by Valley Med Flight. Officials say speed was a factor in that crash.
