Man dies after being hit by vehicle on US 2

IRON MOUNTAIN — A 20-year-old Florence, Wis., man died Sunday after being struck by a vehicle while standing on U.S. 2 near the entrance to the Home Depot store lot.

Deputies received a report about 12:06 a.m. that an eastbound vehicle driven by a 64-year-old Dickinson County resident had hit a man on U.S. 2, according to a news release from the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office.

The man was taken to the Dickinson County Memorial Hospital, where he later died. His name has not been released.

Deputies were told the man had stepped off the curb into the eastbound lanes before the collision, the release stated.

Accident investigators from the Michigan State Police Iron Mountain post are doing a reconstruction of the incident. The investigation is ongoing and no other information was made available.
