Spring snow expected in Wisconsin, lower Michigan

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Shovels and snow blowers set aside for warmer weather once again will get some use this weekend in Wisconsin.

A strong spring storm could deliver up to 9 inches of snow in the Madison area, with lesser amounts elsewhere in southern Wisconsin, forecasters say. Accumulations will vary depending on what track the storm takes Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.

The system is expected to stay south of the Upper Peninsula.

The snow will fall Saturday afternoon and into the evening. But, with sunny skies and temperatures in the mid-40s, the snow will begin to melt Sunday.

Southern Wisconsin generally averages about an inch of snow in April, according to the NWS.

The same system could bring snow to the northern half of Michigan’s Lower Peninsula on Saturday evening and early Sunday, the NWS said. The southwest portion of the state also is expected to get snow, and parts of southeastern Michigan could get a little bit.
