Crews spend hours dousing warehouse fire

IRON MOUNTAIN — A warehouse at Champion Inc. had smoke, fire and water damage after a blaze broke out Monday afternoon.

The fire was reported about 2:11 p.m. in the attic area of the building at 2809 N. Stephenson Ave. All inside the warehouse were able to get out without injury, according to the Iron Mountain Fire and Police Departments.

Firefighters worked more than six hours to control the fire, which may have started as an electrical short. It was contained to the attic area, but the building had considerable water and smoke damage along with moderate fire damage.

The IMFD was assisted by the Breitung Township Volunteer Fire Department, Kingsford Public Safety, the Iron Mountain Police Department, We Energies and DTE, and Integrity Care EMS.
