Amberg Historical Society Museum seeks volunteers

AMBERG, Wis. –  The Amberg Historical Society Museum is off to a good start for the 2019 summer season, but they’re extremely short of people to keep the buildings open and walk visitors through the displays and artifacts.

Because of this, the museum is only open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays. The volunteers they do have are sometimes working multiple shifts and on a few occasions more than once a month.

It is not necessary to be an Amberg historian. Almost all of the displays are self-explanatory and accompanied with video and or auditory guiding.

Current mentors and guides would be willing to meet and serve with those who are not familiar with the museum. They also have printed guide and orientation materials available for helpers.

“We are so fortunate that the town of Amberg and its board along with many volunteers help maintain the buildings and a core of society members keep the displays updated and the building’s interiors clean,” said Carol R. Fick, secretary. “The museum attracts several hundred visitors each season and is among the most popular local tourist attractions.”

If you have any interest in your community and can spare just three hours once a month, either from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. or 1 to 4 p.m. call Fick at 715-759-5959 or the curator at 715-759-5372.
