NORWAY -- The Norway-Vulcan Area School Board on Wednesday reviewed the final numbers for 2018-19, with the fiscal year set to end Sunday.
The school board began 2018-19 fiscal year with a budgeted $6,712,077 in general fund revenues and $6,657,195 in expenditures. Now, end of year numbers show $6,940,946 in revenues and $6,705,187 in expenditures.
Director of Finance Vania Brown said the $235,759 surplus is the result of federal reimbursements, increased tax revenues and intermediate school district payments, among other things.
The athletic fund projected $207,940 in revenue, but earned nearly $6,000 less. At a previous board meeting, Brown said the athletic department did not generate as much money as anticipated because a number of games had been canceled due to weather and fewer events overall had been hosted.
The food service fund saw $296,769 in revenues and $293,524 in expenditures, a surplus of about $3,200.
In other business, the board:
-- Approved an area purchasing agreement between the NVAS Board of Education and the NVAS Education Association as well as the board and the Norway-Vulcan Support Personnel Association. Norway and more than 40 other districts in the Upper Peninsula hope to collectively purchase medical coverage from the Michigan Education Special Services Association.
-- Agreed to repost bids for replacing two boilers on school grounds and to purchase a new pickup truck. The board previously had incorrectly posted bids for both.
-- Set Aug. 14 for a Building and Grounds Committee meeting that will include a walk-through of school grounds and discussion of creating a maintenance manual.
