NORWAY -- As a result of community effort, the Norway Spring Classic Race has been able to continue for 39 years.

The enthusiastic response this year allowed the Norway Spring Classic, under the direction of Tony Adams, race director, to give the Norway High School Youth Advisory Committee a check for $1,000 in appreciation of the hard work and hours spent preparing for the race to make this event a success.

The Norway YAC is made up of  9-12 grade Norway High School students who are involved in gathering community information, awarding grant funds, and evaluating projects as well as community service.

This donation will help fund their community service projects throughout the 2019-2020 school year. In the past, they have sponsored projects such as a 2008, 2011, 2014, and 2018 mock accidents at Norway High School to help provide alcohol and distracted driving awareness.

They've participated in a U.P. Wide Hat Day along with Michigan Tech University to raise funds for Bay Cliff Health Camp, and sponsored Color Our School Pink raising money for the Dickinson County Cancer Closet. They have  held Winter Fun Day sledding and ice skating parties, helped the Easter Bunny and Friends deliver treats to all of the elementary, middle, and high school students, and sponsor needy families at Christmas just to name a few.

The Norway YAC is an affiliate of the Norway Area Community Foundation and the Dickinson Area Community Foundation. For more information about either of these foundations, go to www.dickinsonareacommunityfoundation.org.
