Body of Felch man found in Sturgeon River

IRON MOUNTAIN — Authorities Sunday recovered the body of a Felch Township man missing since June 29 after he jumped off a pontoon boat on the east branch of the Sturgeon River in Breen Township and never resurfaced.

Citizens on shore spotted Alex McDermott floating in the east branch of the Sturgeon River in Hardwood, according to a news release from the Michigan State Police, Iron Mountain Post.

Several searches had been done for McDermott since he disappeared in the impoundment at Stromberg Park but had been unable to locate the 28-year-old.

Troopers were assisted in the search by the Dickinson County Sheriff Department, Michigan Department of Natural Resources, the Delta Dive Team, Norway Fire Department, Nordic Rescue, Beacon Ambulance and a number of citizens.
