NORWAY -- The Norway City Council on Monday approved plans by the Downtown Development Authority to improve a small park at U.S. 2 and Main Street and add a new park next to the American Legion Post 145.
The corner park, now commonly referred to as "Pocket Park," would have a "classical" appearance, with a patio-type surface and seating, requiring less maintenance, City Manager Ray Anderson said. The community will have the opportunity to name the park, Anderson added.
The park next to the American Legion would be named Veterans Park and also have a patio setting plus a mural.
The Main Street Parks Project will cost an estimated $131,503 and be divided into phases. The first phase -- which should be completed this year -- will have the two parks cleaned and hardscaped at a cost of about $50,000.
In other business, the council:

-- Hired Ryan Gordon of Stephens Real Estate to provide marketing and sales assistance for city-owned properties for a commission of 6% or $2,500, whichever is greater.
