IRON MOUNTAIN — A handful of We Energies customers in Dickinson and Florence counties remained without power early today after an outage that reportedly affected more than 10,000 customers late Friday night.

The downtown Iron Mountain area was without service from about 10 p.m. to midnight as a thunderstorm moved through the area. The outage caused a delay in production of today’s newspaper.

Shortly after 1:30 a.m. a traffic accident on Breitung Cutoff Road resulted in downed power lines, according to police radio dispatches.

Upper Peninsula Power Co. reported more than a thousand outages early today in the Escanaba area. There were scattered outages in Iron County.
