KIMBALL — Eleven members of the Dickinson County Big Shooters Club traveled Aug. 3 to Kimball for the 4-H State Shooting Sports Tournament, the largest group ever to represent Dickinson County.

In the senior target rifle event for ages 15 to 19, Katherine Erickson earned her third state title, while graduating senior Hunter Glasheen placed third. They teamed up with junior (ages 12 to 14) target rifle shooter Wyatt Glasheen to earn second place in the team event.

In the junior field rifle division, Colt Glasheen earned his second straight state title. In 2018, he won in junior target rifle. Unable by state rules to compete again in the same division, he trained this year on a custom-built field rifle and took another first place.

In senior field rifle, Nick Plaswirth made the podium in third place, while Colt Glasheen, Nick Plaswirth and Ashley Robertson took second place as a team.

Sydney Smith and Alexander Erickson competed in the air rifle events, with Smith claiming second place in senior precision air rifle and taking the third place team award as a one-person team. Alexander Erickson won his first state championship in 2018 in the beginner sporter air rifle division. Moving up to junior sporter air rifle, he earned his second state championship, besting shooters considerably older. His score also was enough to take third place in the team event as a one-person team.

Nine-year-old Gracie Swank was Dickinson County’s first-ever entry in the beginner BB gun division. She placed fourth in a field of 17 other top shooters from across the state.

The two archers from Dickinson County were Logan Smith and graduating senior Megan Arndt. While neither made the podium individually, they were the highest-ranked two-person team in the state for 2019.

Numerous instructors traveled with the team, including Cliff Smith, Linda Smith, Jason Glasheen and Amy Glasheen. Other instructors who worked with the team throughout the year were Pat Scott, Tony Erickson, Erik Wilson and Tim Plaswirth.

Contributions from various individuals and organizations made the trip possible. The Dickinson County Big Shooters Club would like to thank Pat Scott, Buckmasters, Wildlife Unlimited of Dickinson County, Eastern Dickinson County Sportsmen’s Club, Sagola Township Sportsmen’s Club, Bullseyes to Badguys, American Legion Post 363, Solberg’s Greenleaf and Super One Foods.
