Marinette County Fair opens Thursday in Wausaukee

The animal barns promise to be full again for the Marinette County Fair. Judging activities take place throughout the fair, which takes place Thursday through Sunday in Wausaukee, Wis.

WAUSAUKEE, Wis. — The Marinette County Fair is set to kick off Thursday in Wausaukee.

Highlights over the four-day event include live music, a carnival, the youth livestock auction, a demolition derby and a truck and tractor pull.

New this year is a butterfly house where visitors can view the colorful fluttering insects.

Buildings will open at 9 a.m. Thursday. Face-to-face judging will take place throughout the day from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Carnival rides start at 2 p.m., with wristbands available from 2 to 5 p.m. or 6 to 10 p.m.

The 4-H royalty coronation is at 5:30 p.m.

The puppet show Granpa Cratchet, listed as “everybody’s favorite oldy, moldy granpa,” will perform at 5:30, 6:30 and 8 p.m. A DJ will provide music from 7 to 11 p.m.

Events Friday start at 8:30 a.m. with rabbit, swine and beef judging. Buildings open at 9 a.m.

The horse pleasure show starts at 9:30 a.m. Poultry judging will commence at noon, sheep judging at 1 p.m.

Carnival rides start at 2 p.m., with wristbands available from 2 to 5 p.m. or 6 to 10 p.m.

Comedian and juggler Fantastick Patrick performs at 3 and 5 p.m.; Granpa Cratchet will take the stage at 3:30, 6 and 8 p.m.; and Sami Dare Hypnosis is on at 4 and 6 p.m.

Both the farm tractor pull and youth livestock auction begin at 7 p.m.

Local band Daze 2 Nights will provide live music ranging from the ’60s to current starting at 8 p.m. until midnight to close out the day.

Saturday’s activities begin at 8:30 a.m. with dairy judging. Buildings open at 9 a.m.

Comedy ventriloquist Dave Malmberg goes on at noon and 4 p.m.; Sami Dare Hypnosis will be at 1 and 5 p.m.; Granpa Cratchet takes the stage at 1:30, 4:30 and 7 p.m.; and Fantastick Patrick performs at 2 and 6 p.m. Carnival rides open at noon.

The horse speed show starts at 12:30 p.m. Both goat judging and the demolition derby are scheduled for 1 p.m. The 4-H YAC Auction will be 7 p.m.

The supermodified truck and tractor pull is at 7 p.m. in the grandstand.

Featured entertainment from 8 p.m. to midnight will be Schizophonic, an Iron Mountain-based band that plays classic rock, power pop and hard rock.

The final day of the fair Sunday starts with horse fun day at 8 a.m. Fair buildings open at 10 a.m., which also is when the horse pull will begin at the grandstand.

Always a favorite, the kiddie pedal tractor pull starts at 11 a.m. Carnival rides will operate from noon to 4 p.m.

Mini-rod and modified tractor pulls start at 1 p.m. at the grandstand. Granpa Cratchet takes the stage at 1, 2:30 and 4 p.m.; Fantastick Patrick performs at 12:30 and 3 p.m.; and ventriloquist Dave Malmberg goes on at 1:30 and 4 p.m.

The fair raffle drawing is at 2 p.m. and the 4-H prize drawing at 3 p.m. Trophies and awards will be announced at 3 p.m. at the show barn.

All exhibits will be released at 4 p.m. and the fair closes at 5 p.m.
