Vandalism reported at Norway schools

By Brian Christensen 1 min read

NORWAY -- The Norway Police Department and Norway-Vulcan Area Schools are looking for one or more people responsible for the vandalism of school property.

The vandalism began a little more than a week ago, Norway Superintendent Louis Steigerwald said, adding the most recent act occurred Thursday night when the offenders scribbled profanities in chalk on the entrance and sidewalks of the school board office.

The vandals have also spray painted sidewalks and parking lot poles as well as broken plastic fixtures, according to Steigerwald.

"What's fun about that?" Steigerwald said. "It's just pure vandalism."

Those responsible are likely juveniles, though there are no suspects, Norway Police Department Chief James Shafer said.

There have been a number of recent vandalous acts in the Norway area, specifically Strawberry Lake Park, Shafer said, noting he was unsure whether they are all related.

"We are still working on it with due diligence," Shafer said.

Norway officials are offering a reward to anyone with information regarding the vandalism. Call Norway police at 906-563-5801 or the NVAS at 906-563-9552.
