MARINETTE, Wis. — A town of Peshtigo woman has been arrested after her mother’s body was found this week at a residence on state Highway 64, authorities said.

Paula Bergold, 60, is in custody for failing to report the death of her 89-year-old mother, Ruby Bergold, and hiding a corpse, according to a news release from Marinette County Sheriff Jerry Sauve.

The sheriff’s office is working with the Marinette County District Attorney’s Office on formal charges.

An autopsy was done Thursday morning on Ruby Bergold, though no information has been released on findings. The sheriff’s office and county medical examiner continue to investigate. Sauve previously had stated the elderly woman’s death was an isolated incident and the public was not in danger.
