Human remains found in Chippewa County

MARQUETTE — A Chippewa County man faces multiple charges after authorities reported finding human remains on his Kincheloe Township property.

Sean James McInnis, 41, was arraigned in Chippewa County 91st District Court on charges of torture, assault of a pregnant individual causing stillbirth, two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, one of second-degree count criminal sexual conduct, three counts of first-degree child abuse and two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon.

After a lengthy investigation, the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office conducted a warranted search Wednesday at McInnis’ home along Erin Place, a press release from the sheriff’s office stated.

Detectives and deputies were assisted by the Michigan State Police Special Investigations Unit Human Remains Analyst and a doctor from the Northern Michigan University Forensic Anthropology Unit in conducting the search for human remains as well as additional items of interest. The sheriff’s office confirmed the remains were secured with the medical examiner’s office for further investigation.

McInnis is lodged at the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office without bond.

The sheriff’s office said the investigation continues.
