Marinette County Fair awards listed

WAUSAUKEE, Wis. –The Marinette County Fair awards were presented Aug. 25 at the fairgrounds in Wausaukee.

Serving as emcee was Lisa Witak, president of the Marinette County 4-H Association. Two of the newly-crowned 4-H Royalty were present to hand out the awards — Queen Alexandria Broderick from Forever Green 4-H Club and Princess Sydney Dunkes from Badger Buds 4-H Club.

Also participating was the new 4-H Program coordinator for Marinette and Oconto counties, Aimee Elkins.

Winners were:

DAIRY

SHOWMANSHIP: Beginning – Grant VanDeWalle, Merry Go Getters 4-H Club; Intermediate – Abby Charapata, Merry Go Getters 4-H Club; and, Senior – Austin VanDeWalle, Beaver Four Leaf Clover 4-H Club. Trophies were sponsored by United Cooperative.

HERD AWARDS (CLUB): Large Herd – (1st) Beaver Four Leaf Clover 4-H Club; (2nd) Merry Go Getters 4-H Club; and (3rd) Nelligan Lake 4-H Club. Winners will receive monetary awards from the County Fair.

PRODUCTION:, Lauren VanWinkle, of Merry Go Getters 4-H Club, took Top Butterfat, Top Milk Production and Top Protein. She received rosettes from the county fair for each individual award.

OUTSTANDING EXHIBITOR: Austin VanDeWalle, Beaver Four Leaf Clover 4-H Club, took this award. He received a plaque donated by Hoppe Dairy.

BEST FITTED HOLSTEIN: Under 2 Years – Isabella Carlson, Merry Go Getters 4-H Club; and, 2 Years and Older – Maya Carviou, also from Merry Go Getters 4-H Club. The winners received trophies donated by the Marinette County Holstein Association.

BEST UDDERED: Lauren VanWinkle, Merry Go Getters 4-H Club, received a special rosette sponsored by the County Fair.

BEST FITTED COLORED BREED: Under 2 Years – Alexis Witak. She is a member of the Merry Go Getters 4-H Club and received a trophy sponsored by United Cooperative.

BEEF

SHOWMANSHIP: Beginner – Hunter Fendryk, of Beaver Four Leaf Clover 4-H Club; Intermediate – Mitchell VanDeWalle, Beaver Four Leaf Clover 4-H Club; and, Senior – Austin VanDeWalle, Beaver Four Leaf Clover 4-H Club. All three received trophies sponsored by United Cooperative.

TOP POLLED HEREFORD OR HEREFORD SHOWMEN: This is the first time this award has been given. Riley Mueller and TJ Mueller, both from Middle Inlet Moonshiners 4-H Club, won medallions sponsored by the Wisconsin Hereford Association.

SWINE

SHOWMANSHIP: Beginner – Philip Finger, Merry Go Getters 4-H Club; Intermediate – Magge Darga, Coleman FFA; and, Senior, Lily Charapata, Merry Go Getters 4-H Club. United Cooperative also sponsored trophies for these winners.

SHEEP

SHOWMANSHIP: Beginner – Marli Meyers, Beaver Four Leaf Clover 4-H Club; Intermediate – Aengus Patterson, Badger Buds 4-H Club; and Senior – Alexis Witak, Merry Go Getters 4-H Club. Trophies were sponsored by United Cooperative.

GOATS

SHOWMANSHIP: Beginner – George Gazal, Badger Buds 4-H Club. The trophy he received was sponsored by Winterset Farms.

HORSE

Abigale Johnson, with Club 56 4-H Club, won both the Rookie Girl trophy sponsored by Peshtigo Feed Mill and the Most Versatile trophy sponsored by Weber Bowling and JDL Stables.

DOG

Best of Show (Grand Champion) went to Trevor Nelson, Kountry Kids 4-H Club; and Reserve was awarded to Olivia Hemstock, from Golden Opportunity 4-H Club. They received trophies and money from Tri County Dog Training Academy. The Non-Animal Best of Show trophy was awarded to Morgan Messenger, of Coleman FFA.

POULTRY

SHOWMANSHIP: Beginner – Taylor Rickaby, Golden Opportunity 4-H Club; Intermediate – Ella Kahles, Middle Inlet Moonshiners 4-H Club; and Senior – Melanie Brieno, Golden Opportunity 4-H Club. All three 4-H members received trophies sponsored by Northern Pigeon, Poultry and Rabbit Club.

MOST COMMITTED EXHIBITORS:. Callum Rickaby, Golden Opportunity 4-H Club, and Connor Walters, Badger Buds 4-H Club, will receive a subscription to either a Rabbit or Poultry Magazine and is sponsored by Lacey Wendt, Fair Superintendent for Poultry and Rabbits.

RABBIT

SHOWMANSHIP: Beginner – Taylor Rickaby, Golden Opportunity 4-H Club; Intermediate – Callum Rickaby, also from Golden Opportunity; and, Senior – Connor Walters, Badger Buds 4-H Club. Trophies were sponsored by Northern Pigeon, Poultry & Rabbit Club.

CAT

SHOWMANSHIP: Junior – Chase VanWinkle, Merry Go Getters 4-H Club; and, Senior – Lindsey Michalski, Middle Inlet Moonshiners 4-H Club. Trophies were given anonymously.

CENTURY FARM AWARD

This special recognition was given to Paul and Mary Anne Kust, Coleman. The award recognizes farms or homes with 100 years of continuous ownership through the year 2019. Title of the century property must reside in a blood relative of the original owners, or a legally adopted child of a descendant.
