Police academy meeting Oct. 1

MARQUETTE — Northern Michigan University’s Regional Police Academy will host an information meeting at 5 p.m. Eastern time Tuesday, Oct. 1, in room 132 of NMU’s Jacobetti Complex.

To sign up, call 906-227-1408. The meeting is specifically for those interested in attending the Regional Police Academy beginning in May 2020.

The academy is a 16-week, 800-hour police training school designed to provide basic law enforcement training to in-service and pre-service recruits. The curriculum covers such topics as firearms, precision driving, police and defensive tactics, domestic violence, traffic enforcement, criminal law and other law enforcement areas.

At the successful completion of academy training, a recruit becomes licensable as a police officer through the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards.
