Fatal fire in Menominee County

INGALLSTON TOWNSHIP — One man is dead after a house fire Tuesday afternoon in eastern Menominee County.

Rescue crews were called about 3:12 p.m. to Ingallston Township on a report of a structure fire with the homeowner believed still inside, according to a news release from the Menominee County Sheriff’s Office.

An investigator and sheriff’s deputy found flames visible in the basement and the entire house filled with smoke.

Menominee-Ingallston Township Fire Department, with mutual aid from Mellen Township Fire Department, battled the blaze until they could get inside to find the man, but he was pronounced dead at Aurora Medical Center Bay Area in Marinette, Wis., according to the news release.

The man’s name was not provided at this time. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Also assisting at the fire were Aurora Medical Center Bay Area Paramedics, Michigan State Police Fire Inspector and Accelerant Detection Canine, WPS, Marinette County Sheriff’s Office and Marinette County Medical Examiner’s Office.
