Full slate of Halloween events in area kicks off this weekend

IRON MOUNTAIN — Children of all ages will have plenty of opportunity to get good use of their Halloween costumes this year.

Many local churches and organizations have planned a full slate of Halloween festivities. Events such as haunted houses and “trunk-or-treating” begin tonight and run through the holiday Thursday, Oct. 31.

Activities include:

— Haunt on the Hill, 503 Oak St. in Norway, will be open from 5 to 8 p.m. through Halloween, weather permitting. Cathy and Pat LeBeau’s unique outdoor display can be viewed for free and is open to all ages.

— The Braumart Theatre in Iron Mountain has two classic R-rated Halloween movies for Friday: the horror film “Halloween” at 7 p.m., with adult tickets $7, plus a late-night showing of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show,” at 11:30 p.m., with tickets $12 for adults. Costumes are encouraged for the latter film and props will be provided.

— The West Iron District Library in Iron River will have its annual Halloween party starting at 11 a.m. Saturday. Attendees are encouraged to come in costume, as well as play games for candy and enjoy festive treats and a snack.

— A Halloween costume party is set from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Iron County Medical Care Facility in Crystal Falls, hosted by ICMCF staff. There will be free drawings, scavenger hunts, games, prizes, costume contest, food, snacks, pumpkin decorating, a haunted house and trick-or-treating.

— Calvary Lutheran Church, 821 Bluff St., Quinnesec, once again has planned its annual free trunk-or-treat event from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday in the church parking lot. It includes games with prizes, food served inside the church, prizes for attending and awards for the three best-decorated trunks as selected by the children.

— The Haunted Barn will be open from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Saturday at 1095 Thaler Drive in Waucedah, Wis., featuring hay rides, bonfire, games, popcorn, cider and caramel apples. All ages are welcome.

— Mansfield Township will host its annual Halloween Party on Saturday at the Mansfield Township Hall. The festivities will begin at 6:30 p.m. and all township residents, family and friends are invited. Attendees are encouraged to come in costume and earn prizes during the parade. The kids can enjoy Halloween games and a candy pinata. The Wicked Witch of the West from “The Wizard of Oz” will make her appearance and provide a bit of a scare as well as goody bags for the youngsters. They also will have a pumpkin contest. The evening will conclude with a snack of sloppy Joe sandwiches, with those attending asked to bring cookies or treats to share.

— Mr. Black presents “Halloween 2019: It Came From Outer Space” from 7 p.m. Saturday to 1 a.m. Sunday at Nate Alwine’s Red Barn in Norway.

— Dickinson County Healthcare System’s eighth annual Trunk or Treat event will be 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday in the parking lot at the west end of Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain. Everyone is welcome to attend this fun community event.

— Bethany Lutheran Church and Grace United Methodist Church, who share facilities at 130 Odill Dive. in Norway, as Crossroads Alliance, will host a Halloween family event from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Trunk or treat will be in the parking lot from 3 to 4 p.m. only. Prizes will be awarded for the best decorated trunks and vehicles. Games and pumpkin carving will take place inside the church. They also will award prizes for costumes and carved pumpkins. A lunch of sloppy Joe sandwiches, hot dogs and chips will be provided. Bible character costumes are encouraged but not required.

— First Covenant Church will have a fun trunk or treat event from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday that also will offer free games, hot dogs and fun decorations for the children. Everyone is welcome.

— Immanuel Baptist Church in Wausaukee, Wis., will conduct its annual Fall Party starting at 6 p.m. Wednesday, with games, food and fun for the whole family. Everyone is invited to come in costume — nothing scary or evil, please — and bring a snack to share if possible.

— Iron River Bible Church’s annual Fall Fun Fest takes place from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. All children ages 3 to 12 are invited to dress as cowboys and cowgirls for this free event. There will be games, contests, prizes, food and lots of candy.

— Truck-or-treating is slated from 4 to 7 p.m. on Halloween, Oct. 31, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Kingsford. There also will be games, crafts, candy and fun.

— Breitung Township Fire Department, along with Vollwerth Meats and Tadych’s Family Market, will have a Halloween open house from 4 to 7 p.m. on Halloween, Oct. 31, at the Breitung Township Fire Hall on Menominee Street in Quinnesec. There will be an educational smoke house, games, prizes, candy and food, all at no cost. Food available will include hot dogs, chips, coffee and hot chocolate.

— The Fearless Harvest Block Party, hosted by New Hope Church, will be 4 to 8 p.m. on Halloween, Oct. 31, at 614 Carpenter Ave. in Iron Mountain. It will feature games, trunk-or-treating, free food and more. Everyone is welcome to come in to warm up with some hot chocolate or a cup of coffee.

— The Crystal Falls Lions Club will have its annual Trunk-n-Treat Halloween Party starting at 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31, in the parking lot of the United Lutheran Church on the U.S. 2 curve in Crystal Falls. Treats will be passed out from the trunk of Lions Club members’ vehicles.

— Trunk or treat at Grace Covenant Church will be 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31, at 316 Jasper St. in Iron River. They also will serve hot food inside the church.

— The Long Lake Volunteer Fire Department invites area families to its Haunted House and Trick-or-Treating from 4 to 7 p.m. Halloween, Oct. 31, at the fire hall. Fire and EMS volunteers will pass out candy and fire safety information. All ages are welcome.

— The Caspian-Gaastra Volunteer Fire Department will host a trunk or treat from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31.

— The Amasa Museum will celebrate Halloween at 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31. The event will be a costume contest for these age groups: 7 and younger, 8 to 10, 11 and 12, and 13 through adults. Cash prizes will be awarded for best costume in each category. They also will serve snacks and sodas. The party is sponsored by the Amasa Museum and the Amasa Fire Department.

— Iron River Township Halloween party will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31, at the Beechwood Hall, 178 Beechwood Store Road. Costume judging begins at 7 p.m. They also will have games, crafts, treats and prizes. The event is hosted by the Beechwood Friendly Neighbors and Beechwood Historical Society.
