Seeing off the state Christmas tree

The Iron Mountain High School band performed, as did the Kingsford High School band.
Students yelled “timber” as the 61-foot blue spruce was cut
From left, Iron Mountain residents Jordan, Michael, Vaughn and Sarah Wolfenberg donated the tree, which is expected to be delivered at the state Capitol in Lansing on Saturday morning.
Hundreds of students and faculty were joined by local officials and the Carpenter-Clash American Legion Post 363 for the tree harvesting ceremony.

Representatives from the Great Lakes Timber Professionals Association, the Michigan Association of Timbermen and the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget were joined Thursday morning by students and staff from Iron Mountain, Breitung Township and North Dickinson County schools to see the official 2019 state Christmas tree get taken down at 2202 Aragon St. on Iron Mountain’s North Side and secured for transport to the state Capitol in Lansing.

At the Capitol, Boy Scout troops 109 and 125 will be on hand to untie the tree. The HI-Ball Company of Lansing will volunteer a crane and crew to set the tree at the intersection of Capitol and East Michigan avenues, according to the DTMB. The tree lighting ceremony will take place Friday, Nov. 22, at the 35th annual Silver Bells in the City celebration. Dignitaries will flip the switch that turns on thousands of twinkling lights at about 7:45 p.m. Eastern time. The Wolfenbergs said they plan to be at the lighting ceremony.
