Brew gets renewal as Norway mayor

CANDY BREW

NORWAY — Candy Brew will continue as Norway mayor.

The Norway City Council voted unanimously Monday to keep Brew, the city’s first female mayor, in the position she has had since 2017. She has been on the council since 2015.

“I want to thank the council for nominating me,” Brew said, adding, “It’s a great pleasure to be the mayor and represent the City of Norway. I’m humbled by your nomination and votes.”

“Glad to have you back, Madame Mayor,” council member Scott Popp said.

Brew was re-elected to the council Nov. 5. She and council member Lee Meneghini, who retained his seat in the election, took oaths of office alongside newcomer Jeff Muraro.

The council also unanimously named council member Bret Kraemer as mayor pro tem.

In other business, the council:

— Authorized a $119,967.69 pay request by Coleman Engineering of Iron Mountain for the Strawberry Lake Park Improvements Project for contractor Wright Electric of Marquette. The pay request covered completing a retaining wall and paving parking lots and trails, among other work. The Michigan Department of Natural Resources will reimburse the city for 74 percent of the cost.

— Also approved a $6,318.85 change order request, again from Coleman Engineering for Wright Electric, to do an additional 18 feet of trail paving and install a kayak launch at Strawberry Lake Park.

— Allowed signs to be posted at four city locations from Friday through Sunday for the Jake Menghini Museum’s Taste of Chocolate event set for Saturday.

— Contracted Utility Sales and Service of Appleton, Wis., to perform maintenance on the city bucket truck for a cost not to exceed $3,616.54 and Riverland Welding and Machine of Escanaba to manufacture a truck-mounted snow blower hub for a cost not to exceed $1,500.
