MARINETTE, Wis. — A Crivitz, Wis., man was killed Tuesday in a single-vehicle crash on Deer Lake Road south of Eagle Road in Stephenson, Wis.

Deputies responded about 3:21 p.m. after a nearby hunter heard the crash and reported a car had gone off the road and was on its roof, according to a news release from Marinette County Sheriff Jerry Sauve.

The man, later identified as 63-year-old Scott Barnhart, was pronounced dead at the site of massive head injuries by the Marinette County medical examiner.

Initial investigation showed the vehicle reportedly had been southbound on Deer Lake Road at high speed when it dropped off the right shoulder, crossed left and rolled.

The crash, which is the eighth traffic fatality in Marinette County this year, remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office and medical examiner, according to the news release. Deputies were assisted by the Stephenson Volunteer Fire Department and Twin Bridge Rescue Squad.
